Dr. Imogen Marsh

I have been a qualified Clinical Psychologist for seven years, holding posts within several child and family NHS teams. I continue to work in an NHS community paediatric team in addition to my independent practice. I have a total of 11 years experience working in a variety of NHS settings and with a diverse range of client groups (from early childhood to older adulthood) and presenting concerns (including mental health, chronic pain, and neurodevelopmental or neuropsychological differences).

From my extensive experience of working with families whose children are struggling, I am acutely aware that parental wellbeing is vitally important for family wellbeing.  This is why I started The Hazel Tree Practice.

At The Hazel Tree Practice I provide psychological therapy to people who are experiencing distress in parenthood; this could feel like stress, anxiety, sadness, or sheer exhaustion.  I have particular insight into parents’ distress where neurodevelopmental differences are part of their family’s story, as I know that advocating for your children’s rights and interests within education, health, and social care systems can be intensely challenging.

“Making it Make Sense”

I am dedicated to helping parents and caregivers to ‘make it make sense’, using evidence-based psychological therapies.  For all of us, if we understand why we are struggling we are much better able to find ways to help ourselves.  I provide my clients with a warm and compassionate space to develop their understanding of why being a parent can be both uniquely wonderful and uniquely painful at times, and I use my training and expertise to support them to be kinder to themselves and make wise changes that will help themselves and their families.

My main therapeutic modality is Compassion Focused Therapy, which is underpinned by my core training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, systemic interventions, child development, and family relationships.  I also practice as a climate aware therapist.

There’s nothing quite like seeing how, when a parent’s wellbeing improves, the whole family becomes happier. It’s why I do what I do.
